Scientific interests : In my research, I am trying to understand the foundations of mathematical thinking. How much of mathematical thinking is grounded on universal, spontaneous intuitions that are common to all human beings? What part of mathematics consists in cultural inventions, transmitted through generations? I work with infants and children in France, and with a people from the Amazon, the Mundurucus, studying the acquisition of numbers and geometry.
