With Mark Wexler asap Why doesn't the world seem to move every time you shift your eyes, as it does on the retina? What happens to the visual world when you blink? If you turn off the lights for the same duration, the resulting visual sensation is very different. Does the brain interpolate across the blink? Does time go faster?

When we slide a fingertip over an object, how do we know if it's stationary or not? How do we combine tactile information from different fingers or limbs? Our lab has a mobile "tactile display" that allows us to study these questions in interesting new ways. See this article for our first results concerning these problems.
With Mark Wexler asap In large-scale internet experiments, we have found huge differences between subjects in rather low-level visual tasks. These differences seem to be due to internal variables in the visual system that we can measure, and whose time evolution we have also been studying.
