Relation between the immediate memory span and the memory search rate.
Compared memory-span and item-recognition data from previous studies across several classes of stimuli. Results show that it takes a constant .25 sec. to search through a full memory (i.e., when the number of items stored equals the memory span) in the item recognition task, regardless of material.
