Comparing the cerebral hemispheres on the speed of spatial shifts of visual attention: Evidence from serial search.

Compared the speed at which visuospatial attention (VSA) may be shifted from 1 stimulus to another as a function of the visual hemifield in which the items are displayed in a visual search (VSE) task requiring serial processing. Among 10 19-38 yr old right-handed Ss, the increase in response time with the number of items displayed was similar for left- and right-hemifield presentations. This suggests that the rate at which VSA can be shifted from one stimulus to another during VSE does not differ between cerebral hemispheres.
