||Face processing in autistics: Evidence for a generalised deficit?
Explored whether there was a generalised face processing deficit in 7 autistic children (mean age 11.3 yrs) compared with 7 verbal normal controls (mean age 5.7 yrs), 7 nonverbal normal controls (mean age 5.11 yrs), and controls with Down syndrome (mean age 15.11 yrs). A variety of tasks examining different, and possibly dissociative, aspects of face processing were investigated. The study suggests that autistic Ss are impaired in the various face processing tasks, but not always to the same extent. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2005 APA, all rights reserved)
