Modern problems in the study of cognitive development / Le developpement cognitif: Les problemes que pose aujourd'hui son etude

Development of cognition now seems essential for understanding mental processes. Effects of past events should be emphasized. Neural development seems possible either by specifying uncommitted elements or by eliminating superfluous ones. Either the stages or the changes between stages may be stressed. One problem is that interactions with environments are more variable in psychology than in biology. Mental "notions" may be described as systems of rules (programs) of 5 kinds, and some of the operations of these systems should be observable directly.
