Information intake during habituation in infants: Links between visual and tactual habituation

Studied the stability of the habituation response in visual and tactual modes. The absence of correlation between individual habituation durations in both modes was predicted. Human subjects: 22 normal male and female French children (17 wks 2 days to 26 wks 6 days [firstborn]). The Ss were habituated to the same stimuli (a 6-pointed red plywood star and a 6-petalled red plywood flower) visually and tactually. Correlations between visual and tactual habituation were analyzed for accumulated exploration time, number of trials to criteria, total duration of the 1st 2 and last 2 trials in the habituation, duration of trials used for reference to calculate criteria, duration of test trial, and magnitude of reaction to novelty.
